Fujifilm has unveiled the latest addition to its lineup, the X100VI, during its X-Summit event held in Tokyo. This new iteration maintains the compact form factor characteristic of the series while introducing notable upgrades, including a 40-megapixel sensor and 5-axis in-body image stabilisation.
The Fujifilm X100VI uses the same upgraded 23mm f/2 mark II lens, which is equivalent to 35mm on full-frame sensors. It also retains the same 3.69 M-dot electronic viewfinder (EVF) as its predecessor, which uses hybrid optical or electronic framing that can be toggled by the user. Additionally, the onboard “Electronic Range Finder” (ERF) function allows for a small EVF to simultaneously displayed on the optical viewfinder (OVF), enhancing versatility.
Improvements extend to the LCD panel, which now articulates downwards an additional 15 degrees, facilitating easier usage at high angles. While the camera isn’t inherently weather-resistant, optional accessories can be added to achieve weather resistance, including the AR-X100 adapter ring and PRF-49 protection filters for the lens.
At the core of the X100VI is Fujifilm’s X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor, boasting approximately 40.2 megapixels of resolution. The camera offers various features such as 20 film simulations, the capability to capture 10-bit HEIF files, and high-speed shooting at up to 20 frames per second with the electronic shutter. The sensor also supports advanced autofocus functionalities, including subject detection AF utilising deep-learning AI for various subjects.
One notable addition is the in-body image stabilisation (IBIS), a first for the X100 Series, providing up to six stops of stabilisation without significantly increasing the camera’s size or weight. Furthermore, Fujifilm also included 1.4x and 2.0x digital teleconverters onto the camera, effectively extending the reach to 50mm and 70mm equivalents.
As for video capabilities, the X100VI is capable of shooting up to 6.2K video at 30p, 4K at 60p, and 1080 Full HD at 240p, offering flexibility in various shooting scenarios. And for added convenience, it also comes with native Frame.io camera-to-cloud integration, enabling seamless uploading of photos and videos to the cloud directly from the camera.
The new Fujifilm X100VI is offered in silver and black colour options, priced at RM8,888. It is now available for pre-order until 3 March 2024 via the brand’s official website, with special gifts available to early adopters while stocks last. In regards to the latter, included is a free 128GB UHS-II memory card, a portable Sandisk 1TB SSD, a Manfrotto camera bag, and 1-Year extended warranty.
