Last month, we saw reports pointing at a potential release window of later this year for the Nintendo Switch 2. Though from a number of reports citing industry sources, that was an accurate prediction at a time, though it has since been pushed back to early 2025.
One of the first to report the delay of the Nintendo Switch 2 was Brazilian games journalist Pedro henrique Lutti Lippe, via YouTube channel O X do Controle. Since then, the report has been corroborated by VGC, Bloomberg and Eurogamer, citing their own industry sources.
The reports note that the Japanese games company has told publishers that while it did have an initial late 2024 launch schedule, this has since been pushed to Q1 of 2025. One even noted that it won’t be released until March of that year “at the earliest”. Mentioned as the reason for delaying the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 was to bolster a stronger lineup of launch titles for it.
Rumours of the Nintendo Switch 2 being in development have been circulating for awhile now. Last year, we saw reports of dev kits already being put in the hands of game studios, as well as its supposed ray-tracing capabilities. With the launch of the successor to the very successful handheld console hybrid now seemingly over a year away, there is more time for even more of such reports to make the rounds.
