Garmin is reportedly planning on introducing a new entry-level smartwatch soon, dubbed the Forerunner 165. The upcoming wearable will apparently be the successor to the three-year-old Forerunner 55, coming in two variants including a base model and a Music model, with the latter including 4GB of internal storage and Wi-Fi connectivity for file transfers.
While the company has yet to announce the smartwatch, 91mobiles has published what it alleges to be renders of the unreleased Forerunner 165. According to the renders, it will bring a new design with what looks to be a bigger display and a similar five-button form factor, with the exception of a pill-shaped “Run” button. The watch is shown to come in two colour options, namely black and white.
Previously leaked specs suggest that the Forerunner 165 will sport a 1.2-inch AMOLED display with a 390×390 resolution. Inside, it could be equipped with a barometric altimeter to detect elevation during workouts as well as the brand’s fourth-generation “Elevate V4” PPG sensor. While the Forerunner 55 boasted two weeks of battery life, the 165 could see a downgrade of just 11 days.
While we do not know when the smartwatch will launch, it is rumoured that it will be released globally within the next few weeks.
