Over the past few years, Samsung has shown off tri-folding devices every once in a while, with rumours of production models following soon after. None of that has panned out just yet, but that’s not stopping the rumour mill from turning. Word on the street now is that the South Korean tech giant will be releasing one as soon as Q2 of this year.
The claim comes from frequent leakster @Tech_Reve on X, previously Twitter. Also claimed in the post was that Huawei is “almost certain” to release their of tri-folding device within the same window, with Samsung aiming to beat the former to the punch. Interestingly, the claim is getting some pushback from industry analyst Ross Young, who claims that the Chinese brand will do it, but the Korean counterpart “will wait till next year”.

Taking the claim at face value, Q2 does seem too early for Samsung to be unveiling foldable devices. Recent announcement trends would indicate that the company would wait until another major Galaxy Unpacked event, which usually falls in the second half of the year.
I think Huawei will do it, it was expected at the end of 2023 but was delayed. I think Samsung will wait till next year.

It’s worth remembering that we’ve seen rumours claiming Samsung will be releasing tri-folding devices more than a handful of times since the first teaser in November of 2020. Many of them claimed a 2023 release window, but none of them have come to pass. So like those, this latest one should also be taken with a pinch of salt.
