WhatsApp rolled out chat locks near the middle of last year, letting you lock private and group chats behind your device’s password or biometrics. Though these locks don’t seem to apply to linked devices of the web client variety. That may change soon, as the Meta subsidiary has been seen testing the update in a beta version of the app.
WABetaInfo reports that in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.4.14 update, the messaging app is locking on all other linked devices chats that are locked on the main device. Not much else to say about this, though for the very privacy-conscious with a lot of locked chats, it’s a wonder that this wasn’t an available feature from the get-go.
On that note, WABetaInfo also reports that the WhatsApp Web client is getting a slight user interface revamp. And it is only as part of this tweaked interface that it is getting a tab for locked chats. Which may explain why the syncing of the privacy feature is surprisingly absent on that front.
All that being said, when locked chat syncing finally comes to all your WhatsApp linked devices, the other additions for this feature like secret codes and the ability to hide them will arrive in tow. No word on when that is actually happening though.
