Back in 2022, Valve announced that it will be replacing its annual Lunar New Year sale with a more generic seasonal Spring sale. But that didn’t stop a Lunar New Year Sale for 2023 from happening, though the important distinction here is that the sale was organised specifically by Steam China. It’s happening again this year, with a 2024 edition of the festive sale making another round about half a week before the actual day itself.
Because of this, the Steam Lunar New Year Sale of 2024 is a pretty minor one, with individual publishers deciding to slash prices of some games rather than the entire platform doing so. This also, once again, explains the long list of games in Chinese with no English translations.
But if you’ve got time to kill and cash to spend, we’ve found a few publishers offering discounts for their games. For instance, 505 Games is offering Control Ultimate Edition at a 75% discount, and Death Stranding Director’s Cut is half off. While not listed as being part of the Lunar New Year sale, Bethesda has a fair number of older games listed with 75% or higher discounts.
Square Enix has quite a few of its Final Fantasy titles being listed with 40% cuts or more. One personal recommendation is Stranger of Paradise, if you want to experience a version of the very first FF that is a prequel, retcon and / or alternate timeline, possibly all in one. Another is the much more recent Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, which needs no introduction. In a similar boat is Sega with its rich library of Like a Dragon (previously known as Yakuza) games, including spinoffs like Lost Judgment.
