The ministry of public works (KKR) has announced that toll-free travel for Class 1 (personal) vehicles on highways will be offered on 8 to 9 February, in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration on 10 February 2024. Much like the previous Christmas holiday exemption from last year, the toll-free access is only applicable to all toll plazas except for those located at the national border, namely the Sultan Iskandar Building Toll (BSI) and the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza, which connects to Singapore.
“As a sign of concern and sharing the joy with Malaysians who will be celebrating the Chinese New Year this time, the government has agreed to provide free tolls to highway users,” its minister Alexander Nanta Linggi wrote on Facebook. KKR added that the current initiative is estimated to have a financial implication of RM42.99 million.
The toll exemption will commence from 12:01am on 8 February until 11:59pm on 9 February, the ministry revealed via an official statement. It is also advising users to plan their travels, utilise the travel time advisories (TTAs) issued by highway concessionaires, and have sufficient Touch ‘n Go (TnG) and eWallet credit balance before starting their journeys.
Additionally, KKR is encouraging road users to check the traffic status for all highways via the official social media channels of the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) before making their journeys. They can also contact the authority’s Traffic Management Centre at 1-800-88-7752 to get the latest information on traffic conditions or help.
