Nothing, via its official account on X (formerly known as Twitter), has announced the upcoming unveiling of its latest smartphone, the Phone (2a). Company CEO Carl Pei had dropped hints of an upcoming product on the platform last week, while rumours of the device itself have been circulating online for some time now.
Interestingly, Pei’s teaser included a silhouette of Aerodactyl, a species of Pokémon. This was later revealed to be the codename for the Phone (2a) via the Nothing Community Update video that was recently shared on the company’s official YouTube channel. With the recent hoo-hah going on, let’s just hope that this won’t trigger Nintendo into taking action against Nothing for referencing one of its prized video game franchises.

Anyway, the UK-based tech startup has yet to reveal any details regarding its upcoming smartphone. However, in the same video, it did note that the Phone (2a) is an upgrade to its inaugural product, the Phone (1), and would inherit some features from the Phone (2). Sure enough, prior leaks and rumours are also suggesting similar details regarding the device.
On that note, leakster Yogesh Brar claims that the Phone (2a) will sport a 120Hz OLED display with a redesigned Glyph on the back and run on a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Supposed renders and spy shots of the device have also made their way online, giving us a glimpse of what to expect from the upcoming reveal.
Speaking of which, Nothing did not say when the Phone (2a) will launch, but promised that it will be “coming soon.” Rumour suggests that the company will debut it during MWC 2024 that’s happening later this month in Barcelona, and it’s also worth noting that a listing of the phone was recently found in SIRIM’s online database.
