Samsung’s next-generation compact foldable, which we’ll tentatively refer to as the Galaxy Z Flip6, will reportedly come with an upgraded battery capacity. According to Dutch blog GalaxyClub, the two battery cells equipped on each half of the device will have a combined capacity of 4,000mAh, which is a slight boost over its predecessor.
Speaking of which, the common complaint which many have with the Galaxy Z Flip5 is its 3,700mAh battery, which dwarfs those equipped on most smartphones that were released last year – even its direct rival, the OPPO Find N3 Flip. In our review, we’ve noted that the phone could last slightly over 12 hours when used typically, which is barely enough to keep low-battery anxiety at bay.
The bump to 4,000mAh should be able to provide a couple of hours extra, but whether that’ll actually be enough remains to be seen. For comparison, OPPO’s latest compact foldable comes with a 4,300mAh battery, offering over 15 hours of usage.
Apart from the upgraded battery capacity, prior reports from GalaxyClub suggest that the cover display on Galaxy Z Flip6 may see an increase to 3.9-inches, up 0.5-inches from the one featured on its predecessor. Meanwhile, it is also said that the phone’s primary camera will see a significant bump to 50MP, though it is unclear whether it will retain a dual-shooter setup as before.
On a related note, a separate report by South Korean news outlet The Elec is suggesting that the company is considering introducing a budget-friendly version of its Fold model. Seeing that Samsung’s foldable smartphones would only launch during the fourth quarter of the year, it will take some time before we’d know for sure if any of these claims are accurate or not.
