Users on CelcomDigi’s legacy plans such as Digi and Xpax 40 and 60 Postpaid can now access 5G without needing to spend on booster add-ons. However, not all plans exhibit this much requested change, especially those under the prepaid selection – with the exception of Digi Next 5G 48 and Xpax Prepaid 5G 48.
Prior to this, the telco was observed removing mentions of 5G booster add-ons from both its Digi and Xpax legacy plans last week, seemingly to comply with communications minister Fahmi Fadzil’s announcement on the abolishment of charging users extra for 5G access. Despite this, customers have reported that they are still required to pay a fee in order to access the faster network.

In response to our query, CelcomDigi explained that legacy plans under its Digi and Xpax banner are specifically allocated for 4G usage and will still require purchase of 5G boosters, whereas free 5G access is only available to its new unified plans. Now, it appears that the telco has decided to quietly change this during the weekend, as it has yet to provide an official announcement.
To activate 5G access for applicable Digi legacy plans, first launch the MyDigi app, tap on Buy Add-Ons, and then select 5G Access Pass. Xpax users, on the other hand, can find the same pass under the Add-ons section in the Celcom Life app. Also keep in mind that you’ll have to activate the pass manually once its 30-day duration expires. There’s no option for auto renewals at this time.
The pass should be listed as RM0.00, provided that your plan is eligible. On that note, it is unclear whether CelcomDigi intends to add free 5G access to its other legacy postpaid plans such as Digi Infinite and Postpaid 58/80, as well as the prepaid options in the near future.
