The Xbox consoles have, since its inception, never been available in Malaysia in an official capacity. In fact, it was only last year that Microsoft announced that it would start bringing in Xbox Wireless Controllers to our shores, and over six months since for it to actually happen. But now, there are hints that the Xbox Series X may be making its way to the local market in an official capacity, as the console has made an appearance in the SIRIM database.
Oddly enough, the applicant for the certification is noted as Ingram Micro Malaysia, likely indicating the official distributor of the console. Under model description, the entry reads “1882 (Xbox Series X)”, which adds up as it is indeed the console’s model number. The database also notes the device’s approval date as 20 December of last year.
Notably absent are models 1881 and 1883, which are the original and updated Series S models, respectively. This may mean that they are not joining the Xbox Series X in the local market, or perhaps they will only arrive at a later date.
At any rate, this may mean that great news is coming for those who have been patiently waiting for the Xbox Series X, or indeed any Xbox console, to be available in Malaysia in an official capacity. This will likely also extend to the Xbox Game Pass, as the PC Game Pass has already been around for just under two years. That being said, though, considering the gap between the announcement and actual launch of the wireless controllers last year, we may be in for quite the wait. At any rate, we’ve asked Microsoft for comment and will let you know if we learn anything new.
