AMD’s latest Adrenalin Software and the first graphics drivers for 2024 are finally available and along with it, public access to its the chipmaker’s Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF). The feature and technology is the brand’s response to NVIDIA’s Frame Generation technology, but is available on a software level.
The Adrenalin drivers Edition 24.1.1 comes with the coveted Fluid Motion Frames that AMD says will provide up to 97% more frames for games running on DX11 or DX12. Concurrently, it will give gamers a 97% average framerate boost for titles running at Full HD, and up to 103% higher average frames on titles running at 1440p. Also, in keeping with its goals of democratising the technology, it is available for Radeon RX 6000, 7000 Series desktop and laptop GPUs, as well Radeon 700M mobile GPUs.
It's here! If you haven't tried it yet, you're missing out on huge frame rate gains across thousands of games:
AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) – Boost FPS up to 97% for a smoother gaming experience by adding frame generation technology to any DirectX® 11 and 12 game.…— Frank Azor (@AzorFrank) January 23, 2024
Some things to note about Fluid Motion Frames. First, the Frame Generation-like technology can be switched on via HYPR-RX. However, AMD says that the technology may “introduce additional latency” to games, making it a less-than-ideal to have on if you’re an Esports player or just playing a title of that nature. Further notes indicate that, due to the potential latency impact, Fluid Motion Frames will need to be manually enabled in the per-game settings, even if the feature is enabled globally.
You can download the latest drivers via the official AMD site or if you’re already a Radeon user, your current Adrenalin overlay should have prompted you for it.
