Amtel has announced a new product in its toll reader lineup, dubbed the Lokatag Pro. This new product offers two-in-one functionality as it packs both a toll payment tool and a dashcam into a single device. If you’re not familiar with it, the original Lokatag was released in 2019 as a SmartTAG-compatible toll reader that is wired into the car itself for power instead of requiring a battery.
The Lokatag Pro uses infrared technology from Austrian company Efkon, allowing you to smoothly drive through SmartTAG lanes without needing to stop to pay for tolls. This toll reader is compatible with both regular Touch ‘n Go cards as well as the enhanced NFC versions. It is also equipped with a voice feature that provides drivers with real-time updates on card balances, available in Malay, English, and Mandarin, at the expense of the display seen on its predecessor.
Of course, the biggest update to the product is the dashcam, which features an automotive-grade eSIM, GPS tracking, cloud remote control, and over-the-air (OTA) updates. The built-in sensors and monitoring system even alerts its users of suspicious activities and geo-tags incidents for evidence. it has a 2K resolution and a microSD card slot, although customers must purchase the card separately.
The Lokatag Pro retails at RM1,799 and is available for pre-order on its website. It will be shipped out some time in March 2024 and customers can get free installation. Those who pre-order the toll reader will also be eligible for free car insurance by Zurich Malaysia.
