Rumours about the Nintendo Switch 2, or whatever the sequel to the Switch may end up being, are heating up again. We’ve already seen one claim that it will be released in September, even if it was based on a guess. More recently, there are some new claims about what the spec sheet of this successor console will be like. But perhaps more interesting than that is a claim that a Pro model of the device will also be releasing alongside.
YouTube channel RedGamingTech claims that, citing industry sources and a report by Taiwanese outlet UDN, the Nintendo Switch 2 will have 8GB of RAM, 64GB of eMMC storage, and a seven-inch 720P OLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate. While battery capacity is not specified, the report notes that this aspect is “greatly improved”. Also noted that it will be using the Nvidia T239 chip, which gives it features like DLSS 2.
Then there’s the Pro model of the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro, which will come with 12GB of RAM instead. The only other difference between the two is that the Pro model will have 12 streaming multiprocessors (SMs) as opposed to the 10 of the base model. The rest of the spec sheet is shared between the two. Though RedGamingTech says to “not put much a huge amount of faith in this happening, because Nintendo cancels things all of the time”.
At this stage, the rumours paint the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro as a pretty strange device. While it will naturally be better than the base model, the difference isn’t all that much. And if these specs are accurate, the 120Hz refresh rate and DLSS, as well as the improved battery life, are the upgrades to look out for. But as with any other rumour, these should be taken with a pinch of salt.
