Late last year, we reports claiming that the iPad Air is getting a larger model than the standard 10.9 inches. Specifically, the larger option would measure in at 12.9 inches, mirroring the two options of the iPad Pro. Now, it looks like CAD renders of said upsized iPad Air have made their way onto the internet.
91mobiles claimed to have obtained these “raw CAD renders of the iPad Air 12.9-inch model” from industry sources. From these renders though, beyond the larger size overall, the renders suggest that the Apple tablet will mostly retain its new look since the redesign. The only obvious change is the camera at the back, which now sits on an island accompanied by what looks like an LED flash.
Worth a reminder though is that the prior report claimed that that this supposed 12.9-inch iPad Air model was slated for 2027. With that in mind, either said report was being too conservative with its estimates, or that these renders have appeared far ahead of schedule.
Beyond the screen size though, nothing else is known about this new size option for the iPad Air. But with the current iPad Air 5 already sporting the fruit company’s M1 chip, it’s perhaps not too far-fetched to expect this new model, or indeed a range of new models, to come with an M2 chip. No word as to when that will actually happen. A prior claim had pegged a launch event for Apple’s tablets as happening on 17 October 2023, but the date has come and gone without anything of the sort happening.
