Ever since WhatsApp added Channels in the middle of last year, the feature has gotten one update, which saw the addition of a number of new tools. Now, the Meta subsidiary has announced a few more that have started rolling out globally.
One of the new additions to WhatsApp Channels is Voice Updates, which does exactly what it says on the tin. Once the roll out hits you, you’ll be able to send voice clips into channels about the same way as you send voice messages. Similarly, followers of channels that have voice messages sent will be able to play them as well as react to them much like voice messages in regular chats.
Another addition to WhatsApp Channels is the ability to share polls to users. This is probably one that will see more use among the new features added, as it allows for another way to interact with channels that they follow beyond just reacting to updates. While what options are available to channel admins are not yet clear, the image shared by the company suggests that a poll can have four options, and followers can select more than one option.
Speaking of admins, the latest update to WhatsApp Channels allows each channel to have up to 16 admins. While it’s always nice to have the option to do so, this will probably be more useful to larger channels.
And finally, followers of WhatsApp Channels will be able to share channel updates to their status. To do so, you’ll have to give the update in question a long press, the select “Forward: followed by “My Status”. Of the new features being added, this is probably the most innocuous of them all, and only the most hardcore of followers make frequent use of this feature.
As mentioned earlier, these new additions to WhatsApp Channels are being rolled out globally. As this is usually a gradual process, you may need to give the app some time before these changes are reflected.
