Alongside the new Note 13 series, Xiaomi also launched the Redmi Watch 4 and the Redmi Buds 5 series in Malaysia yesterday evening. The former offers a larger screen and an updated design, whereas the latter packs plenty of upgrades in terms of audio delivery, active noise cancelling (ANC) and battery life.
The Redmi Watch 4 is the largest smartwatch yet from the brand, coming in with a 1.97-inch AMOLED display with 450 x 390 px resolution, 60Hz refresh rate and 600 nit brightness, as well as featuring Always On capability. It is also the first to feature a stainless steel crown, while its chassis is made out of aluminium alloy. It also comes with a new quick release mechanism for the straps, which is available in a variety of colour options.
The new Redmi watch is equipped with a built-in GPS, a heart rate plus SpO2 sensor and is waterproof up to 5ATM (50m). And unlike its predecessor, this model comes with Xiaomi’s new HyperOS branded interface, or at least a wearable variant of it. In terms of battery life, the company claims that the Watch 4 is capable of lasting up 20 days on a single charge.
Next, the Redmi Buds 5 Pro boasts an innovative dual-driver design, with enlarged 11mm bass drivers featuring titanium-plated diaphragms and 10mm piezoelectric ceramic tweeters. Xiaomi emphasises that this configuration enhances the audio experience, providing a “more natural and open” sound with richer treble. The active noise cancellation has been upgraded to 52dB across a 4kHz frequency range, while the transparency mode now includes a setting that heightens ambient sounds for improved spatial awareness.
The ANC system incorporates an AI-driven adaptive mode, seamlessly transitioning between three noise cancellation levels. Additional features encompass LDAC Hi-Res wireless audio support, Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, and five built-in EQ profiles, featuring new Music and Video Modes. Furthermore, the device offers extended battery life, delivering ten hours of playback, and 38 hours with the charging case – both with ANC turned off.
Last but not least, we have the Redmi Buds 5, which employs larger 12.4mm titanium-plated drivers but lacks additional tweeters. To compensate for this absence, the buds incorporate an “independent sound chamber,” aiming to enhance dynamic frequency response and ensure greater sound consistency.
Similar to the Buds 5 Pro, the Buds 5 also features an upgraded ANC, along with a new ambient enhancement setting for transparency mode. Additionally, the Buds 5 are equipped with Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity and include four pre-set EQ profiles. Its battery life has been significantly extended to ten hours, and up to 40 hours via the charging case.
As for availability, both the Redmi Watch 4 and Redmi Buds 5 series can be purchased via authorised Xiaomi stores as well as its official online stores on Lazada and Shopee starting today. The smartwatch is priced at RM459, while the Buds 5 and Buds 5 Pro are priced at RM199 and RM299 respectively. To commemorate their debut, the company is currently offering all three devices at a special Early Bird discount until 2 February 2024. During this period the Watch 4 is priced at only RM379, the Buds 5 at RM149, and the Buds 5 Pro at RM269.
