Sony Honda Mobility have again brought its Afeela EV sedan to the stage during this year’s CES event in Las Vegas. But this time, the joint venture has showcased an updated prototype of the car, revealing an updated design along with some new information regarding its specifications.
The changes themselves are not too overly drastic, though it is believed that this current prototype of the Afeela EV sedan is closer to the finalised version that will hit the market in 2026. Newly added are two traditional side mirrors replacing the two camera-equipped stalks from the original prototype, while the headlights and front grille are also larger. Apart from that, the charging port door on the front fender is now larger, and the indentation along the rocker panels and rear bumper have also been restyled.
On the inside, Sony and Honda have added two wireless chargers, a redesigned rear view mirror, a larger centre console powered by Unreal Engine 5.3 technology, as well as a new inward-facing camera perched atop of the full-width screen. Size-wise, the Afeela EV sedan is listed at 193.5 inches long.
In terms of performance, both companies have revealed that the EV will be equipped with two motors in the front and back, with each producing 241 horsepower. It will also come with a 91kWh Li-ion battery that supports 150kW DC and 11kW AC charging. Unfortunately, details such as its range and top speed have yet to be disclosed and will only be known when the Afeela goes on sale in two years’ time.
On a related note, Sony Honda Mobility also revealed that the Afeela EV sedan is set to be added to Gran Turismo 7 later this year, allowing anyone to drive it earlier than its release, albeit virtually. Oh, and did we mention that the company actually drove the car to the stage using a PlayStation DualSense controller?
