Alienware has recently introduced a range of new products during CES 2024. This year, not only did it revamped its gaming laptop series, but also incorporated two 4K QD-OLED gaming monitors into its lineup and launched its inaugural line of gaming peripherals.
While Alienware maintains its primary focus on catering to competitive gamers, its laptop family is undergoing a transformation to appeal to a broader audience, where the design language has been updated to be more discreet and portable. Newly introduced is the brand’s new Stealth Mode, which caters towards those who found the lighting effects of prior products too distracting in certain environments. With the feature activated, keyboard backlighting turns white, while RGB lighting effects are disabled and fan noise is reduced.
The redesigned Alienware m16 R2 aims to be its all-purpose notebook, boasting a 15% smaller footprint compared to the previous generation. This reduction was achieved by implementing the brand’s own “Cryo-tech” cooling technology, which eliminates the need for the previous thermal shelf design. The updated laptop is now more portable, provides additional desk space for peripherals, and even comes with a built-in hotkey for activating Stealth Mode. In terms of specifications, it is equipped with Intel Core Ultra H Series processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Series mobile graphics.
For users prioritising performance, there’s the enhanced Alienware x16 R2 notebook model. While still maintaining the all-metal chassis, six-speaker setup and lighting, the brand has also tossed in some internal upgrades, including a default 240Hz display, the Cryo-tech cooling tech, LP-DDR5X memory, as well as customisable hardware options.
Then we have the Alienware m18 R2, which is tailored for users seeking a portable yet powerful alternative to a desktop. Featuring the highest storage capacity at up to 10TB as well as cooling upgrades, this latest generation emphasises both storage and performance. Specs-wise, the m18 R2 comes with Intel 14th Gen Core i9-14900HX processor, up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPUs, and also the newly introduced Cryo-tech cooling technology.
Additionally, the gaming sub-brand has introduced two QD-OLED gaming monitors to its lineup. These include the Alienware 32 4K QD-OLED Gaming Monitor (AW3225QF) and Alienware 27 360Hz QD-OLED Gaming Monitor (AW2725DF), which are touted to be more compact than their predecessors, catering to competitive players and content creators alike. The 32-inch model comes with a 240Hz refresh rate and Dolby Vision HDR technology, while the 27-inch AW2725DF offers a best-in-class 360Hz refresh rate with a 0.03ms gray-to-gray response time, reducing motion blur and ghosting.
Last but not least, Alienware also unveiled its Pro wireless mouse and keyboard, which – as mentioned earlier – are also its first ever gaming peripherals. The former prioritises durability, consistency and ease of use, operating at a 4,000 Hz polling rate for 32 hours. Its symmetrical design suits various grip types and hand sizes, and at 60 grams, it is touted to be both lightweight and stable.
On the other hand, Alienware’s new wireless keyboard is designed with a compact 75% form factor, and features linear mechanical switches with a 40g activation force for quick inputs and a satisfying feedback. The keyboard boasts customisable keys and an extended battery life of 72 hours with RBG lighting set at 50%, or an impressive 798 hours with the effects disabled.
Alienware has announced that the new m16 R2 laptop will be available in Malaysia by mid-March 2024 at a starting price of RM10,999, whereas the x16 R2 and m18 R2 will only arrive by early February and late January 2024, starting from RM11,999 and RM12,599 respectively. The two monitors are slated to arrive by early February, with the 32-inch AW3225QF priced at RM3,799 and the 27-inch AWQ2725DF at RM4,799. Lastly, the new Alienware Pro wireless mouse and keyboard are expected to be available by late February, though their respective pricing has yet to be determined.
