With internet search giant Google having its own generative AI chat bot in the form of Bard, it should be no surprise to see the company squeezing it in wherever it can. One oddly specific area where it has not yet been utilised, but seemingly will be soon, is within the Google Play Store.
As TheSpAndroid reports, the search company is working on using AI to generate a frequently-asked-questions (FAQs) section for apps in the Google Play Store. Within version 39.1 of the store, this can be turned on by enabling a flag. You do need a rooted device to do this, so it’s definitely not something that the average user should do.
The report notes that for the most part, said FAQ sections will still be quite lacking, listing only three presumably oft-asked questions in a drop-down menu. There will be a “Created by AI” label at the bottom to temper expectations when it comes to the veracity of these questions and their respective answers, so there’s that.
According to the report, this feature only works for a few popular apps and games, which is not too surprising. The most commonly generated questions and answers are also those that you can already find out by reading the app’s description. This makes the feature a tad redundant, and especially for more functionally diverse apps, it may be a better idea to read what it has to offer than rely on an AI-generated summary. On the flip side, the argument can be made for simpler apps that it’s faster to read the generated FAQ.
With the flag already in place, it may be just a matter of time before it gets switched on in the Google Play Store for everyone. Hopefully the list of FAQs gets longer by then.
