In addition to the UltraGear 4K OLED monitor which was recently revealed, LG revealed a new OLED display panel. Specifically, the LG Display division, which makes panels which could make its way to monitors made by other brands. It is simply known as the 27-inch 480Hz QHD Gaming OLED display, and as the name suggest, its key feature is support for 480Hz refresh rate on a 1440p screen.
If you’re thinking this sounds familiar to the aforementioned UltraGear monitor, the key difference here is that said monitor has to be dialed back to 1080p if you engage its 480Hz refresh rate mode. The new panel, with its support for a higher resolution as well as a response time of 0.03ms, leads to the company claiming that it’s the fastest among “any panel on the market today”.
Something else that LG Display has listed as a plus point for this new panel is that it emits the “lowest level of blue light in the industry”, or about half the amount compared to standard LCDs. Beyond that, there’s also what the company calls its META Technology, which uses a “Micro Lens Array” to improve light emission and reduce external light reflections.
As for when you’ll see this panel in the market, LG says that this 27-inch 480Hz 1440p display is set to launch during the first half of the year. But it remains to be seen if this means that you’ll be able to buy them via other monitor makers.
