Malaysians will soon be able to skip the queue and opt for online renewals for their driving licence and road tax. This was announced by transport minister Anthony Loke, who revealed that the MyJPJ app will offer the option of online renewals starting 1 February.
The Road Transport Department (JPJ) started testing online payments for these types of renewals back in August, with Loke stating that it will take a few months before being able to officially launched. Renewals for both the driver’s licence and road tax through MyJPJ will be conducted in phases, with the initial phase opening up the feature only to Malaysians.
Moreover, to encourage people to skip the counter and opt for online renewals, JPJ is offering a RM5 rebate from 1 February to 31 December 2024. Of course, you can also save more with your driving licence renewal by getting the 10-year validity period, which comes with a 10% discount.
The government digitised certain driving licences and road tax last year, allowing motorists to use a digital version instead of requiring a physical card and “flimsy sticker”. When required to show the relevant documentation, they can produce the digital copy through the MyJPJ app or even just use a screenshot.
