The Ministry of Public Works (KKR) has announced that highways within the country will be toll free on 23 and 26 December 2023, in conjunction with the upcoming Christmas celebrations. Toll exemptions will be given to all types of vehicles at all toll plazas, with the exception of those located at the national border – more specifically, the Sultan Iskandar Building Toll (BSI) and the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza which connects to Singapore.
In its official statement, KKR said the decision for this was agreed upon after a joint meeting was held between the ministry and highway concessionaires. The toll-free access is expected to ease the travel burden of all Malaysians who are planning to return to their hometowns to visit family members and celebrate Christmas, or go on vacation in conjunction with the school holidays.

According to its post on X (formerly Twitter), KKR revealed that toll-free access on all highways will commence at 12.01am until 11.59pm on both days. It also explained that the aforementioned dates are chosen to prevent the concentration of traffic on days where road users are expected to travel during the period.
The ministry is also encouraging road users to check the traffic status for all highways via the official social media channels of the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) before making their journeys. Additionally, they can also contact the authority’s Traffic Management Centre at 1-800-88-7752 to get the latest information on traffic conditions or help.
