It appears that both newly announced OnePlus 12 and 12R smartphones will be coming to Malaysia soon. The latter model, which is believed to be the more budget-friendly variant from the brand’s upcoming flagship line-up, has recently been discovered in SIRIM’s database – just about a month after the flagship variant’s listing was found.
Apart from its name, the brand has yet to disclose any information regarding the OnePlus 12R. On the unofficial side of things, leakster Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka OnLeaks) claimed back in July that the phone will be slightly smaller than the flagship variant, but will retain the design language and certain features such as the alert slider. It is suggested that its display will sport a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate, 1.5K resolution support, and a 16MP selfie camera housed within a punch-hole cutout.
Instead of the current-gen Qualcomm chipset, OnLeaks said the OnePlus 12R will instead come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, with up to 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It will also allegedly feature a 5,500mAh battery with 100W fast charging, while its rear quadruple camera setup consists of a 50MP main, 32MP telephoto, 8MP ultra-wide and a 2MP macro.
Whether the information provided through Hemmerstoffer’s leak is accurate or not remains to be seen. For that, we have to wait until OnePlus officially launches its new flagship series next year on 23 January 2024. That being said, it is unclear whether both phones will debut locally around the same time or at a later date.
