After a year since its announcement, Amazon has now officially partnered with Games Workshop to finally adapt the Warhammer 40,000 (Warhammer 40K) universe for the big and small screens. The popular sci-fi tabletop game’s account on X confirmed that both parties have now signed a “full agreement, and the next stage can begin.”
Twelve months prior, the groups had reached an agreement in principle, detailing that Amazon will have an exclusive licence to produce film and television productions based on Games Workshop’s intellectual property. In return, the British gaming company will grant the US multinational company associated merchandising rights.
In December 2022 we announced Games Workshop and Amazon Studios had signed an agreement in principle to bring Warhammer 40,000 to screens big and small.

In a post by Games Workshop on their official community page, it announced that an “elite band of screenwriters, each with their own particular passion for Warhammer,” is coming together to write and produce the first wave of Warhammer content for the video streaming platform. They will also receive assistance from Henry Cavill, a long-time and dedicated Warhammer 40K fan, who will be an executive producer for the series moving forward.
The former Superman actor is known for his love of all things fictional and is widely loved in return because of his knowledge and dedication to the source material, namely the Netflix Witcher series. However, he has been unceremoniously withdrawn from both the DCEU and Witcher franchises.
But for those who have been keeping tabs on the Amazon-Warhammer discussion, you’d know that Cavill isn’t simply satisfied with sitting in the executive chair. In an interview with IGN, the former Witcher star expressed his desire to have an acting role in the Warhammer universe, be it 40K or Age of Sigmar, but he has not stated which specific character yet.
This news is very exciting for all Warhammer fans, but we still have to wait, as TV and film production will take at least two or three years before anything can arrive for us to enjoy. But Games Workshop has confirmed that the group will be sharing some pieces of information for us to enjoy while waiting.
