Rumours of a new smartphone variant from Nothing has been circulating for a while now. Thanks to a vague teaser shared by the brand’s official account on X, it was initially believed that the new handset would debut earlier this month. However, that turned out to be inaccurate, as what was actually unveiled is Nothing’s new factory wear-inspired apparel line.
Despite the announcement ending up being – well – nothing, unofficial sources are insisting that a spinoff model is still coming. Just recently, leakster Yogesh Brar has shared on X photos allegedly depicting the test sample version of the device, which is believed to be called the Nothing Phone (2a), along with its specifications.

While the device itself is shown to have its design hidden behind a case, one particular detail does stand out. That being the position of its dual camera setup, which is located in the centre instead of the upper left corner like the Phone (1) or Phone (2). Brar says that the 2a variant will sport a redesigned rear case and Glyph layout, though the latter’s controls would be similar to the current generation model. Meanwhile, a separate claim by leakster Dylan Roussel mentioned that the newer phone will feature three Glyph parts.
Specifications-wise, Brar says the supposed Nothing Phone (2a) would feature an OLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate, Android 14 via Nothing OS 2.5, a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chipset, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. For photography, it will come with a dual 50MP cameras, likely the same primary and ultra-wide setup that’s equipped on the Phone (2).

Based on the details given, it appears that the allegedly upcoming model would be a mid-range offering, which could also mean a more affordable price point. However, we’ll only know for sure once Nothing officially confirms this. As to when we’ll actually see it, both Brar and Roussel claim that the Phone (2a) will only debut during Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, which falls in late February or early March next year.
