The look of the ASUS ROG Phone 8 has already been officially teased, and some of its specs have already been leaked via Geekbench. But it looks like the phone has suffered another leak, with more renders of the phone showing up on the internet, as well as a more detailed spec sheet.
This latest batch of leaked info comes courtesy of Windows Report, which makes a number of claims beyond just the spec sheet of the ASUS ROG Phone 8. First, and perhaps the most unimportant one of them all, is that the Ultimate model may go back to being called the Pro version. This may or may not open the phone up to a third variant, but the company did say that it wanted to not have the problem of too many variants, like it did with the ROG Phone 6.
Going to the supposed spec sheet of the ASUS ROG Phone 8, some bits are bizarrely missing, but from what is available, it looks like both the base and Pro models will sport IP68 ratings. Another differentiating factor will be down to the RAM and storage configurations.
According to the likely incomplete leaked spec sheet, the base model only has one, which is 12GB + 256GB. The Pro model, on the other hand, has a choice of 16GB or 24GB of RAM, as well as 512GB or 1TB of storage space. And while both models will be sporting the same 6.78-inch Full HD+ display, the leak suggests that only the Pro will have a variable refresh rate of between 1Hz and 120Hz, as well as a peak refresh rate of 165Hz. This shouldn’t be the case, as the ROG Phone 7 and 7 Ultimate both sported the 165Hz refresh rate.
Beyond these differences, similarities between the two versions of the ASUS ROG Phone 8 include the 5,500mAh battery, support for WiFi 6E, and a 32MP front-facing camera. The primary camera setup consists of a 50MP main + 13MP wide angle +32MP zoom camera with 3x optical zoom. Which sounds pretty impressive, but so did the other ROG phones that came before, so it’s no real indication that the new generation will be capable of taking impressive photos.
Also a part of the leak are some iterations of staple accessories for the ROG Phone line, which includes the AeroActive Cooler X. The leak claims that this comes in the box of the ASUS ROG Phone 8, but it remains to be seen if this applies to the whole lineup or just the Pro model like the previous generation. Then there’s the Devilfish case which supports said cooler, and an alternative clear case with raised corners.
In the end, while part of this leak look pretty believable, the incomplete nature of it casts a lot of doubt on its veracity. Though with the official unveiling of the ASUS ROG Phone 8 happening next month, it’s not that long a wait before we find out for sure.
