Sony Malaysia is now accepting pre-orders for its new Alpha 9 (A9) III full-frame mirrorless camera until 7 January 2024. It is priced at RM29,299 for body only, and early adopters are also entitled to receive a CEA-G80T memory card and an additional NP-FZ100 battery for free, while stocks last. Based on the pre-order duration, it is very likely that the camera will arrive in the country by early next month.
In case you missed it, the Sony A9 III was globally unveiled last month and is touted to be the world’s first full-frame image sensor camera with a global shutter system. According to the company, the latter of which enables for high resolution, blackout-free burst images at high frame rates with highly accurate subject recognition performance, which is ideal for sports and even wildlife photography.
To quickly recap, under the hood of the new camera is a 24.6MP full-frame global stacked sensor, which is paired together with the brand’s latest Bionz XR image processor. In tandem, these allow for shutter speeds of 1/80,000th of a second for stills or 1/16000th of a second for continuous shooting, providing blackout-free 14-bit RAW bursts at up to 120fps with a 1.6 second buffer.
Another notable feature is the high-density focal plane phase detection autofocus (AF) ability that’s powered by a designated AI processing unit, which enables the camera to recognise a wide variety of subjects with high precision. Additionally, it comes with an ISO range of 250-25600 (expandable to 125–51200), and an in-body 5-axis stabilisation system that offers 8.0 stops of optical shake reduction.
Video-wise, the A9 III supports 4K 120p video with no cropping, along with 4K 60p with 6K oversampling. It also offers 10-bit recording with S-Log3 capture in all video modes, and features Sony’s S-Cinetone colour profile that offers you a quick and efficient solution to colour-grading.
Meanwhile, featured on the camera’s body is a 4-axis multi-angle LCD touchscreen, a 9.44 million-dot Quad XGA OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF) with 0.90x magnification, and a new dedicated button in front that allows you easily adjust the continuous shooting speed. As for connectivity, the A9 III supports wired LAN and storage via fast CFexpress Type A and UHS I/II SD cards.
Apart from the new camera, Sony also announced that pre-orders for its new FE 300mm F2.8 GM OSS compact telephoto prime lens are available until 31 January 2024. Amusingly, it much pricier than the A9 III, retailing at RM29,899. In any case, pre-ordering the lens will also net you a free CEA-G160T memory card while stocks last.
