Honda has officially debuted its sixth-generation SUV, the 2024 CR-V, for the Malaysian market today. A total of four variants will be offered, but only three are currently available locally at this time; the 1.5L Turbo S, 1.5L Turbo E, and the 1.5L Turbo V AWD. Unfortunately, the brand will only announce the pricing and availability of the 2.0L e:HEV RS hybrid model by early next year.
Regardless of variant, the new Honda CR-V measures in at 4,691mm long, 1,866mm wide and 1,681mm tall, while its wheelbase is at 2,700mm. Externally, it features LED auto headlights, LED daytime running lights, front LED sequential turn signals, and LED rear combination lights as standard.
Despite the similarities in aesthetics, there are still some differences to be found on each model. For instance, the 1.5L E variant adds LED front fog lamps and a hands-free powered tailgate with walk-away close function, the V AWD gets chrome tailpipe finishers, while the RS packs roof rails, black-coloured side mirror covers and an active shutter grille.
Meanwhile, the base S variant features sporty 17-inch five double-spoke wheels in Sparkle Silver, while the E and V models share the same 18-inch version, again with double-spoke design and silver finish. The e:HEV RS, on the other hand, comes with similarly-themed 18-inch wheels, but in gloss black and a resonator for road noise suppression.
On the Inside, found standard across all 2024 CR-V models is a dashboard with clean-running dash fascia, a three-spoke steering wheel, full-width mesh-covered air vents and a freestanding infotainment touchscreen. Also featured is a 7.0-inch TFT semi-digital instrument display with an analogue speedometer, remote engine start, walk-away auto lock function, dual-zone air-conditioning with rear AC vents, cruise control, and mechanically-adjustable rear seats. Keep in mind that only the RS variant packs a 10.25-inch full digital instrument display.
As for upholstery and finishes, the base Honda CR-V 1.5L S sports black fabric seats, an urethane steering wheel, black honeycomb pattern panel inserts, and manual adjustment front seats. The E model onwards comes with leather seats and steering wheel, dark brown wood-grain inserts, and a nine-inch Advanced Display Audio touchscreen infotainment unit.
Exclusively featured on the e:HEV variant are aluminium silver accent inserts, with gloss black and red stitching on the upholstery, steering wheel, gear shift lever cover and door cards. It’s also worth noting that this is the only model to come with a 12-speaker Bose Premium audio system.
All three starting versions of the 2024 CR-V feature Honda’s 1.5L VTEC DOHC turbo engine, offering 190hp and 243 Nm of torque as well as a top speed of 200km/h. In terms of acceleration, the S variant is said to take 9.7 seconds to hit 100km/h from zero, whereas the E and V AWD variants take 9.8 and 10.4 seconds respectively.
Meanwhile, e:HEV RS packs a 2.0L naturally-aspirated Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine, which also functions as a generator for the onboard e-motor. On its own, the former offers 146hp and 190Nm of torque, while the latter generates 181hp (135kW) and 335Nm. This variant takes only 9.0 seconds to complete the century sprint, but has a lower top speed of 187 km/h.
For safety features, all four variants come with a new 90-degree field of view camera, 120-degree field of view millimetre-wave radar, as well as improved adaptive cruise and lane keeping assist systems. The new CR-V models also have Honda Connect support, offering car owners access to a variety of functions via a dedicated smartphone app that’s available on iOS and Android devices.
The 2024 Honda CR-V 1.5L Turbo S is priced at RM159,900, the 1.5L Turbo E at RM169,900, and the 1.5L Turbo V AWD at RM181,900. All prices mentioned are on-the-road, without insurance. To commemorate 20 years of CKD production of the SUV in Malaysia, Honda is offering the S variant at an introductory price of only RM157,900, but only for the first 750 units.
