Back in August, Maxis announced that it started offering its postpaid customers access to 5G data. In addition to the usual monthly data allocation, the telco had offered 5G specific data which amounted to about half of what subscribers were paying for. Starting tomorrow, it looks like the bonus 5G data allotment will be upgraded.
In an FAQ page, Maxis notes that customers paying for the Postpaid 79 plan will be getting 80GB of additional 5G data, in addition to the usual 80GB. This bonus data ramps up exponentially the higher in the postpaid tiers you go, ending with 1TB of bonus 5G data for the Postpaid 199 plan, which already comes with 200GB of data.
The telco also notes in the FAQ page that this upgrade is a permanent one, and will be gradually rolled out between 14 and 20 December. The process will be automatic, requiring no action from subscribers. You’ll also get a confirmation SMS to let you know that the upgrade is complete. If you’re a new subscriber though, you’ll gain access to the new bonus 5G data allocation immediately.
Though these upgrades only apply to these plans specifically. So if you’re on an older plan, such as the Maxis Postpaid 128 in the provided example, then you’ll either have to change to the Postpaid 139 plan, or any other plan of your choosing if you’re fine with paying an early termination charge. In a similar vein, these bonus 5G data allocation upgrade does not look to be applicable to Hotlink postpaid plans, or at least this is not reflected on its FAQ page.
