The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) has announced that the general registration for the MyDigital ID initiative will commence in March 2024. Its agency, MIMOS Berhad, emphasised that the system is internationally recognised with EAL3+ certification and is equipped with cryptography-based security to ensure personal data safety.
To recap, MyDigital ID serves as an online authentication method, providing Malaysian citizens seamless access to various government digital platforms. It is an initiative under MOSTI and MIMOS Berhad, in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) and the Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD), as well as supervised under the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU).
The ministry says its implementation aims to facilitate access to various digital services while strengthening the security of online transactions. By integrating the online verification process, individuals can use various services without facing the hassle of multiple logins and facilitate digital interactions with government agencies. MOSTI also assured that the system will not store any biometric data, in addition to not collecting or storing the user’s personal database.
