Rumours have it that Sony’s next inter-generational console, the PlayStation 5 (PS5) Pro, may ship out with a more powerful GPU. Specifically, the alleged PS5 Pro could rock an AMD RDNA3 GPU, with as many as 60 Compute Cores.
The alleged rumour was leaked by prominent and renowned leakster, Tom Henderson, who was prompted by another user on X, formerly Twitter. He also posted on Resetera forums, where he said that the alleged PS5 Pro was being developed under the codename Project Trinity and that they were expecting Sony was already bracing for leaks of said console to happen this month, primarily because of the devkits of the console are already making their way to 3rd party studios. Concurrently, the new APU has also been named by another user on X: Viola.
Can't comment on other peoples leaks because I don't know.
Internally, Sony is expecting full specs to leak this month because of dev ket distribution to 3rd party studios. https://t.co/sJ9x4OGjtQ

Spec-wise, the PS5 Pro’s new APU should have 3,840 Stream Processors, which is the same number that you’ll find on the Radeon RX 7800 XT desktop graphics card. Other alleged internal specifications suggest that the new APU is based on TSMC’s N4P process, have 16GB GDDR6 memory with a 256-bit memory bus, which translates into approximately 576GB/s of bandwidth. The GPU itself is supposedly clocked at 2GHz and there’s a soft rumour that it’ll also be the first game console to make use of the recently announced XDNA2 NPU.
There is also an explanation as to why the PS5 Pro is called Project Trinity. It’s a reference to the combination of three technologies that Sony is focused on bringing to the alleged upcoming console: fast storage, accelerated ray-tracing, and upscaling. In other words, the three fundamental components in practically every modern video game title.
Any leak saying things like 60 CUs out of 64, 56 out of 60 CUs, only 64 ROPs, etc.

The move by Sony, if it turns out to be true, to release a PS5 Pro, is par for the course for the brand’s gaming wing. For years and with every generation of its console, the Japanese brand has released multiple iterations of its PlayStation console, with the PS4 being the first of its kind to receive a bigger and more “Pro” variant of its time.
As for when we can expect to see the PS5 Pro, speculations puts the launch sometime in November next year, which is a going to be a while.
