After years of speculation, Capcom has finally announced the Monster Hunter Wilds at The Game Awards 2023 (TGA). This brand new entry to the popular co-op franchise is now in development and is set to be released in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Unfortunately, not much information has been disclosed about the game except for a few objects of interest found in the trailer, such as a new rideable companion, a Mad Max-esque world (so far), and the return of a familiar monster in the form of Rathalos.
“We’re thrilled to announce Monster Hunter Wilds today and reveal the newest entry in the Monster Hunter series to fans all over the world,” Monster Hunter series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto said in Capcom’s press statement. “Our team is working passionately to create the greatest Monster Hunter experience yet, and we’re eager to play the game with everyone when it launches in 2025.”
As the franchise counts down to its 20th anniversary, many Monster Hunter fans anticipated a 2024 release, but that will not be the case. This would have been perfect timing, too, as Capcom is collaborating with MSI to create a limited edition, Rathalos-themed PC to be released in time for the celebration.
However, the dream of playing the latest installment on the appropriately themed PC will have to wait for at least a year. In the meantime, Tsujimoto promises to release more information about Monster Hunter Wilds in the summer of next year.
To commemorate the announcement of Monster Hunter Wilds, Capcom has announced that previous entries to the franchise have gone on sale for you to pick up and play while waiting. Steam has priced them as follows:
