Panasonic has announced an update to its vlogging-focused mirrorless camera that was first introduced back in 2020. Known officially as the Lumix G100D, it is essentially the same shooter but with some minor improvements added. One of which being the inclusion of a USB-C port, which replaces the dated USB 2.0 Micro-B port on its predecessor.
The Panasonic Lumix G100D is very similar to the original model in most cases, so expect the same design and specifications – sans the newer additions which we mentioned earlier. It ditches LCD technology for a new OLED panel on its electronic viewfinder (EVF), offering a lower 2.36M dots resolution output but with a slightly higher magnification of 0.74x. Meanwhile, the camera retains the same button and dial layout as its predecessor, as well as the 3-inch 1.84M dots vari-angle LCD touchscreen.
Like its predecessor, the camera comes with a 4/3 20MP sensor which is capable of recording 4K videos at 30 and 24fps and 1080p at 60fps. It offers an ISO range of up to 25,600, a 5-axis hybrid image stabiliser (IS), and a triple microphone setup for recording high-quality spatial sound. Also onboard is a single SD/SDHC/SDXC (UHS I) memory card slot, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and the new USB-C port for data transfer as well as charging.
Feature-wise, the Lumix G100D includes a new Video Selfie mode that captures both the user and background in sharp focus, the Frame Maker tool which assists the user to determine the composition of popularly used aspect ratios while recording, and RED Frame Indicator that notifies if the camera is recording. Other shooting modes include slow/quick motion video, timelapse, and 4K PHOTO which extracts images from recorded footage.
In Japan, the new Panasonic Lumix G100D vlogging camera is priced at JPY89,100 (~RM) together with a 12-32mm f/3.5 kit lens. For your reference, the preceding model debuted at USD750 (~RM3,499) back in 2020 for the same arrangement.
