According to a new report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple may be releasing a whole glut of new iPads and Macs early next year. This is apparently a strategy for the company to tackle the declining sales in both categories which, when combined, make up about 15% of its revenue.
Citing unnamed insider sources, the report claims that the updated iPad Air will come in two sizes, a first for the series, while the new iPad Pro will be getting an OLED display and the M3 processor with a total four models ranging from 11-inch to 13-inch screen sizes. Meanwhile, the MacBook Air will also be upgraded with the new Apple Silicon chipset.
2023 will be the first year where no new versions of the iPad were released, leading to a 10% decline in sales to US$6.44 billion last quarter. On the other hand, Mac sales were hit much harder in the same quarter despite updated laptops coming out, dropping by 34% to US$7.61 billion. It’s clear that Apple is hoping that new models will stimulate higher demand for the products next year.
The report states that the updated iPads and revamped accessories will be unveiled at the end of March 2024, which isn’t unusual for Apple as it has regularly held launch events for Macs and iPads in March. Later on, the tech giant will be introducing the much-anticipated Vision Pro headset, an updated Apple Watch with blood pressure monitoring, a new low-end iPad, larger iPhones, and revamped low-end and mid-tier AirPods with USB-C ports.
