Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s all-electric EQ range had just added its seventh model (nine, including variations) to the local market as it has officially launched the EQE SUV model – only a month later after its larger sibling, the EQS SUV, had been introduced. Based on the EVA2 vehicle architecture, the EQE SUV features 4MATIC all-wheel drive with rear-axle steering up to 10 degrees and AIRMATIC air suspension, enabling it to drive on almost all terrain with exceptional manoeuvrability.
The model only has one variant, officially called the EQE 500 4MATIC SUV. It features a sporty exterior with 55.9cm (22-inch) AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels, A-Wing trim in high-gloss chrome, flics and fins on the front air inlets in black, adaptive digital headlights, a 3D helix design rear lights, a panoramic sliding sunroof, a continuous reflector strip, and a radiator grille with the Mercedes-Benz pattern.
On the inside, it features an AMG Line Interior and includes SUV sports seats with more pronounced seat side bolsters in leather black and space grey colours. The rear seats have a soft armrest, while the front seat has a 3-stage heating and ventilation system.
The EQE SUV also has a Driving Assistance Plus Package that gives helpful information and pops up in the driver’s display. This function also includes Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Steering Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, and Active Emergency Stop Assist, all of which are put on view on the driver’s display.
Performance-wise, the EQE 500 4MATIC SUV is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds and achieves WLTP ranges of up to 552 km thanks to its dual-motor setup and 400-volt lithium-ion battery, which grants a maximum capacity output of 300kW (408hp). Furthermore, the EV also supports AC 22kW and DC 170kW charging, reaching 100% charge in 4 hours and 45 minutes and 80% charge in 32 minutes, respectively. As mentioned earlier, it is capable of rear-axle steering, which enables this EV to be more manoeuvrable in cities despite its bulkier frame compared to sedans, reducing the turning circle from 12.3 metres to only 10.5.
The EQE 500 4MATIC SUV is priced at RM485,888 on-the-road without insurance and includes 10% sales tax. According to the EV’s listing on Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s website, its colour options include Sodalite blue, Obsidian black, Selenite grey, High-tech silver, MANUFAKTUR diamond white bright, and MANUFAKTUR alpine grey solid.
