Grab is expanding its pilot for a new e-hailing feature that lets you save money with your bookings, as long as you’re willing to wait. The new GrabCar Saver option offers you a lower fare for your rides, saving you up to 20% off of the usual fare.
If you noticed, this is a similar discount to its GrabShare option, but unlike the carpooling feature, you won’t be limited to just one passenger but rather four passengers like JustGrab. The caveat to GrabCar Saver is that drivers can decline these bookings without affecting their cancellation rate, so it might take a while longer for you to get a driver.
According to a screenshot in our forum, GrabCar Saver is available from 9 AM to 4 PM on weekdays. A representative confirmed with us that it is now running in Klang Valley, Penang, Ipoh, Johor Bahru, Negeri Sembilan, and Melaka. Previously, the pilot, which was launched back in July, was only running in Kuantan as well as parts of Sabah and Sarawak including Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Miri, and Kuching.
This is just one of several features that Grab has introduced this year to offer lower prices to its customers. Other notable options include GrabFood Saver, cheaper long-term Grab Unlimited plans, and a pilot for loyalty stamp cards. The app is also working on fare bidding for its e-hailing service, but it’s unknown when it will launch.
