Al Rajhi Bank Malaysia’s digital bank, Rize, apparently started facing major service disruptions on 1 December 2023. This led to many users reporting on our forum and social media that their transactions failed to arrive in the intended accounts after successfully transferring money to and from the app.
On that same Friday, Rize posted in the afternoon that it was aware of the service disruption and later in the evening, it announced that the app’s services have resumed. Despite that, many users voiced out that while that balance was transferred out from Rize, they still had not received that amount in their receiving bank accounts.

The next day, the company said that Android app specifically was experiencing intermittent service disruption, but did not clarify on the exact problem. Following these events, Rize gave an update on 3 December that it’s currently working on normalising the accounts and transactions of its impacted users, which could take up to seven days.
Based on the recent comments on the post, some have reported that they have already received a full refund from their transactions, while others say that they either received a portion of the amount they transferred or have still not received anything at all.
The latest brief from the digital bank on this issue is that it will normalise a “vast majority” of customer accounts and transactions today and expects to complete normalising all the affected accounts by 5 December. So far, Rize has failed to provide proper clarification on exactly what caused the service disruption, which has certainly not helped in retaining the confidence of depositors. We will keep you updated on any new information regarding this issue.
