Shell Recharge today signed an MOU with Porsche Malaysia and Resorts World Genting, with a promise to set up an all-new electric charging hub in Genting Highlands. The hub, which is expected to be completed and accessible by early next year, will allow electric vehicles (EV) to finally make the drive up the mountain without EV owners worrying about where they can charge their vehicle.
Shell Recharge says the new charging hub will comprise 10 charging bays – four of those bays will support 360 kW high performance charging (HPC), while the remaining six will be 22kW AC chargers. Additionally, all chargers will be using CCS Type 2 charging connectors.
As for the pricing mechanism, Shell Recharge will charge (no pun intended) EV owners for it’s service based on the kilowatt-hour (kWh) pricing mechanism. The rates are as follows: for those using the 360 kW charger, the confirmation fee is set at RM10, every kWh charged will cost RM2.80, while the maximum charge an EV will be allowed is RM400. Do note that idling – it means that the vehicle is merely sitting in the designated bay and not charging – is free for the first 15 minutes, but every 15 minutes thereafter will cost RM10.
For the ones using the 22kW charging station, the confirmation fee will be RM8, followed by a per kWh charged of RM1.30. Like the 360kW charger, the first 15 minutes of idling is FOC, followed by an RM2 charge in 30-minute intervals thereafter.
EV owners can also reserve a bay of their choice at the Resorts World Genting, upon it being accessible next year, via the Shell ParkEasy app.
