If you’re an Astro customer that’s currently on a 100Mbps plan, you’ll be happy to know that the TV streaming service has a new WiFi Kencang package that is now offering existing customers speeds of 500Mbps for a monthly fee of RM90. Here’s the how and why for the offer.

With the implementation of the Mandatory Standard on Access Pricing (MSAP), internet service providers were also required to revise their fibre broadband pricing and offers to existing customers. Case in point, Maxis and Unifi are two providers that have reduced the pricing of their own packages, having reduced their respective 100Mbps plans from RM129 to RM90 per month. Astro is also one of those provider but as of this publication, the company’s website has been partially updated to reflect that revision.

What we mean is that, if you visit Astro’s page right now, it still lists its 100Mbps package for RM129, 500Mbps for RM189, and 800Mbps for RM249. The partial change can be seen at the top of the 100Mbps and 500Mbps packages, whereby 100Mbps customers will be given a free speed upgrade to 500Mbps, while those subscribed to the 500Mbps package can be upgraded to 800Mbps. These upgrades are offered as a 24-month plan, with the streaming service offering one free month, should the customer sign up online.

That’s not all either. In conjunction with this time-limited WiFi Kencang promotion, Astro is also offering existing Astro pay-TV customers a rebate of RM39, across all their non-primary TV packs. In other words, if you’re already on a 100Mbps plan, and to reiterate was we mentioned earlier: instead of paying RM129, you’ll simply have to pay RM90. That, and you get that 500Mbps speed bump, of course.
