U Mobile today has introduced three new mobile plans for subscribers based in East Malaysia, namely Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan. These consist of the U Postpaid Bornoe 38 and 68 plans, as well as a U Prepaid Borneo 20 option – all of which are available now.
The new U Postpaid Borneo 38 plan is offered at RM38 per month, providing unlimited 5G and 4G high-speed data in East Malaysia, along with unlimited ultra hotspot 5G and local calls. U Mobile is currently offering this option with a special rebate of RM10 from today until further notice, meaning that you’ll only be charged RM28 per month until the promotional period ends.
Meanwhile, U Postpaid Borneo 68 is priced at RM68 per month, and offers the same unlimited offerings as the former plan, but adds free 200GB high-speed international roaming for three countries: Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand. Additionally, choosing this option will also entitle you to the telco’s U SaveMore programme, which allows you to bundle it with select 5G-enabled smartphones for free or at a discounted price. According to U Mobile’s website, available options include the realme 11X 5G, OPPO A79 5G, OPPO Reno10 5G, HONOR X9b 5G, Samsung Galaxy M14 5G, OPPO A38, vivo Y17S, and Samsung Galaxy A05.
There are some things to keep in mind, though. In its FAQ, U Mobile notes that you are unable to utilise both postpaid plans’ unlimited data in Peninsular Malaysia, where you’ll be allocated 10GB of high-speed monthly data instead. There’s no mention of FUP but regardless, it is advisable that you manage your data usage accordingly.
Next up, we have the U Prepaid Borneo 20 that’s currently offered at only RM15 per month throughout the same promotional period. With this, you’ll gain access to 2,000GB of 5G data and 120GB of 4G data with no speed caps. In addition, unlimited hotspot and calls are also included in this package.
As with the postpaid plans, U Prepaid Borneo 20’s unlimited data is only applicable when you’re in East Malaysia, and you’ll be subjected to a 10GB 5G/4G data quota in Peninsular Malaysia. U Mobile’s T&C page states that activating this plan will require a minimum credit balance of RM15, which will also serve as its activation fee.
Another thing to note is that, despite being labled as “unlimted”, its included hotspot usage will draw from the 2,000GB (5G) + 120 (4G) quota. Exceeding this limit for both regular data usage and hotspot will throttle speeds to 512kbps until the plan expires.
