CelcomDigi has announced a lineup of new “unified” plans that are marketed under its new corporate moniker instead of separate plans for Celcom and Digi. These new postpaid plans are all enabled with 5G without the need for a booster purchase, but they do introduce new speed caps, which is a first for 5G mobile plans in the country.
The new plans start from RM80/month for 90GB of data capped at only 100Mbps and RM100/month for 150GB of data capped at 300Mbps, with both sharing the hotspot quota with the data plan. Then we move on to the unlimited plans which have so called “unlimited” data quotas paired with speeds ranging from 300Mbps for RM120/month, 500Mbps for RM140/month and RM160/month, and 1Gbps for RM260/month.
Aside from the speed, the “unlimited” plans also differ by their Fair Usage Policy (FUP) data cap, ranging from 300GB for Postpaid 5G 120, 1TB for the 140 and 160 plans, and 2TB for the 260 plan. While this is unfortunate, the silver lining is that the download speeds will only be throttled to 10Mbps once you’ve reached the limit instead of the industry standard of 64kbps to 512kbps.
Another difference is the hotspot quota, with an allocation of 20GB for the 120 plan, 100GB for the 140 plan, 300GB for the 160 plan, and “unlimited” for the 260 plan. This means that if the hotspot quota is a higher priority for you than the speed, the Postpaid 5G 80 and 100 plans might be better bang for your buck than the next two plans.
The new CelcomDigi postpaid plans also come with different perks in each tier. The cheaper 80 and 100 plans get free unlimited 5G roaming passes while the unlimited plans are offered the passes at a 50% discount. On the other hand, the most expensive 260 plan comes with free 300Mbps Home Fibre while the rest are also offered free fibre but only for six months.
CelcomDigi is offering rebates for those who from other telcos to its new plans, offering a RM30 monthly rebate for 24 months for the Postpaid 5G 260 plan and a RM10 monthly rebate for six months for the other 5G plans. Last but not least, there are new supplementary plans for family lines and SIM cards for gadgets, ranging from an extra RM30/month to RM50/month.
