During last month’s Scary Fast event, Apple introduced new MacBook Pro and iMac lineups powered by its M3 chips. While the local pricing was announced shortly after the unveiling, it wasn’t until now that the new computers were made available for purchase in Malaysia.
The M3-powered MacBook Pro comes in 14-inch and 16-inch options, with the former available with all three chip variants while the latter can only be fitter with either the M3 Pro or Max. It starts from RM7,499 for the base 14-inch M3 model with 8GB of unified memory and 512GB of storage. The M3 Pro model starts from RM9,999 while the M3 Max version starts from RM14,799, with upgrades for more CPU and GPU cores available for both.
The 16-inch MacBook Pro has a starting price of RM11,999 for the M3 Pro model with 18GB of unified memory and 512GB of storage while the M3 Max model starts from RM15,999 with 36GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, but only the latter can be upgraded with a higher CPU and GPU core count. When fully decked out, the MacBook Pro with M3 Max, 128GB of RAM, and 8TB of storage costs an eye-watering RM30,799. It should be noted that the upgraded M3 Max chip is required to configure the laptop with 128GB of RAM, otherwise it will be limited to 96GB.
The M3 and base M3 Pro models for the 14-inch laptop come with a 70W charger by default and you’ll have to shell out an extra RM80 if you want the 96W charger, which is included in the higher-spec 12-core M3 Pro model as well as the M3 Max models. On the other hand, all configurations of the 16-inch MacBook Pro come with a 140W charger.
As for the new 24-inch iMac, it’s only available with the base M3 chip with 8-core and 10-core GPU variants. The vanilla trim starts from RM6,299 but you’ll have to get the upgraded model that starts from RM7,299 to get two additional USB 3 ports and a gigabit ethernet port. Maxed out, the iMac with 24GB of RAM and 2TB of storage costs RM12,099. All the models include Apple’s Magic Mouse and Keyboard, but only the upgraded-GPU configurations come with Touch ID.
According to the tech giant’s website, all three of the M3-powered Macs ship out in just one business day, but this is extended to three to five business days if you customise the configuration for the M3 MacBook Pro and five to seven business days for the M3 Pro and Max models. Similarly, any customisation for the new iMac will result in it taking five to seven business days to ship out.
