Proton today has officially launched the new S70 model, marking its return to the sedan market segment after a very long while. It is available in four different variants: Executive, Premium, Flagship, and Flagship X. All of which offer different external and internal configurations, but feature the same 1.5L turbo engine with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission.
For starters, the Executive variant of the Proton S70 sedan comes with fabric seats, halogen headlamps and six airbags, whereas the Premium model features LED headlamps, a tail light bar, leatherette seats, a reverse camera, and auto air-conditioning. Both options also come with 16-inch alloy wheels and an 8-inch infotainment head unit (IHU).
Meanwhile, the high-end Flagship and Flagship X models come with similar configurations as the Premium variant, but features larger 17-inch wheels, 12.3-inch IHU with a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster, as well as an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). Some of the features offered by the latter includes autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop & go, and lane centring assist. It’s also worth noting that the Flagship X is the only Proton S70 variant to feature a sunroof.
As mentioned earlier, the new sedan is equipped with a 1.5L turbocharged three-cylinder engine with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, therefore packing more performance than the car that it is supposed to be based on, namely the 4th gen Geely Emgrand. On that note, the S70 is claimed to deliver 148hp and 226Nm of torque, enabling for a 0 to 100km/h sprint time of under 10 seconds.
Proton says the S70 is certified as an Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) by the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), and also has a 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating. Speaking of the latter, its onboard safety related features include traffic sign recognition, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, door opening warning, automatic high beam, tyre pressure monitoring system, and a 360-degree camera.
The Executive variant of the new Proton S70 sedan is priced at RM73,800, while the Premium model is at RM79,800, the Flagship at RM89,800, and the Flagship X at RM94,800. All of the aforementioned prices are on-the-road (OTR) and without insurance. Additionally, all S70 variants are covered by a 5-year warranty with unlimited mileage, and a total of six free service sessions, while exclusive to the Flagship and Flagship X variants is a free 5-year data package with 1GB data quota.
