It has recently been discovered that the iQOO 12, which initially launched in China earlier this month, has been spotted in SIRIM’s e-ComM database – possibly indicating that a local launch could happen soon. However, it appears that only the standard variant only made the cut, whereas the high-end Pro model is nowhere to be found, or at least not yet.
Here’s a quick recap of the series: The vanilla iQOO 12 features a flat 6.78-inch E7 AMOLED panel with 2800 x 1260px resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, 1440Hz PWM dimming, up to 3,000 nits peak brightness, and an under-display fingerprint scanner. Under its hood is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, along with 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. Depending on the variant, the phone comes with either a 5,000mAh or a 4,880mAh battery with 120W fast charging through USB-C.
As for imaging, housed within the large island on its back is a triple camera setup helmed by a 50MP OmniVision OV50H sensor with OIS, a 64MP telephoto with zooming ranges up to 3x optical, up to 10x hybrid and up to 100x digital, as well as a 50MP ultra-wide with macro. Meanwhile, housed within the punch-hole cutout on its display is a 16MP selfie camera.
What sets the iQOO 12 Pro apart from the vanilla variant is its curved 6.78–inch E7 AMOLED display which offers a higher resolution of 1440 x 3200px. Everything else on the phone is pretty much the same in terms of specifications and imaging, though it does come with a slightly larger 5,100mAh battery with 120W wired and 50W wireless fast charging support.
There’s no official word on when the iQOO 12 will be launched in Malaysia. Seeing that its predecessor made its local debut in December last year, there’s a chance that the next-gen flagship could repeat this as well. Should that be the case, its arrival would make it the first smartphone to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in Malaysia.
In any case, don’t forget to check our hands-on with the vanilla iQOO 12 for our first impressions with the device.
