The smart #1 (Hashtag One) EV has officially launched in Malaysia today, and is available in three variants: Pro, Premium and Brabus. Regardless of model, the series itself is built on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform, which is also used on the Zeekr X and Volvo EX30.
The new EV sports a consistent design language all across, though each model varies in terms of onboard equipment. Starting with the Pro, this version of the smart #1 comes with CyberSparks LED headlamps with daytime running lights, manual headlamp levelling, 19-inch amp alloy wheels, power tailgate and roof rails.
Meanwhile, both the Premium and Brabus variants feature Cybersparks LED and Matrix LED headlamps with adaptive high beam, automatic headlamp levelling, automatic front and rear sequential LED turn signals, illuminated front grille and door handles, luminous side logos, side view mirror-mounted courtesy light, and power tailgate with kick sensor. The former also comes with 19-inch rotor alloy wheels, while the latter gets 19-inch dynamo alloy wheels as well as a sportier Brabus aero body kit.
On the inside, the smart #1 comes standard with a 9.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, 10-way power front seats, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, a mobile phone wireless charger, centre armrest storage with chiller, rear seat centre armrest with cup holders, 64-colour ambient light, and a panoramic halo roof with electric sunblind. The Pro variant gets a five-speaker audio system while the Premium and Brabus models get a 13-speaker audio system by Beats, as well as a 10-inch full-colour heads up display and ventilated front seats.
As for upholstery, the Pro comes with leatherette seats, PU leather steering and an “After Dark” interior trim, while the Premium gets leather seats and steering wheel along with a “Dark Matter” trim. The fancier Brabus variant, on the other hand, features ultra suede seats with sporty stitchings, alcantara steering with an illuminated Brabus logo, aluminium sport pedals, and a Brabus-themed interior trim.
In terms of performance, the smart #1 Pro and Premium feature a single motor setup that delivers a maximum output of 272hp and 343Nm to the rear wheels, while the Brabus variant is powered by a dual-motor setup that pushes 428hp and 543Nm to all four wheels. All three models come with three drive modes: Eco, Comfort, and Sport. We should also point out that the top-end model comes with an exclusive “Brabus mode” that lets the EV generate a V6-like engine sound while accelerating.
The Pro is claimed to offer up to 315km of range (WLTP) via its 49kWh LFP battery, while the Premium model can go up to 440km via its 66kWh ternary (NCM) battery. Even though it features the same battery capacity as the latter, the sportier Brabus model is actually claimed to offer a shorter range of 400km due to its dual motors.
Last but not least, all variants of the smart #1 in Malaysia are equipped with Level 2+ advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), along with a wide assortment of safety features. The latter of which include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, front and rear collision mitigation support, lane keep and change assists, evasive manoeuvre assist, blind spot detection, driver performance monitoring, automatic high beam, 360 visual park assist, and so on. Features that are exclusive to the Premium and Brabus variants include adaptive high beam, full autonomous parking, autonomous parking assist, and parking emergency brake.
The 2023 smart #1 Pro, Premium and Brabus models are priced at RM189,000, RM219,000 and RM249,000 respectively. All prices mentioned are on-the-road (OTR) and without insurance.
