Insta360 recently announced that it will be launching a new action camera tomorrow. Based on the teaser and promotional material on their social media, the device is said to have AI functionality and is sporting a similar form factor to the latest GoPro.
As expected, the company did not provide any additional information regarding the product, except for their collaboration with another camera giant, Leica. However, despite their best effort to keep things under wraps, information about the device has been leaked online by tech insider, Igor Bogdanov of Quadro News.
According to the leakster, the Insta360 Ace and Ace Pro are poised to be “serious competitors” for DJI and GoPro thanks to their on-board AI systems, which are reportedly able to enhance images and automatically recognise the best moment to start recording for a video. Additionally, the device has gesture control that can be activated, even with headphones and gloves on, and can survive being submerged 10 metres underwater.
As mentioned above, there are two iterations of the camera, with the pro model having a 1/1.3-inch sensor and, allegedly, being the first sports camera to support 8K video resolution, though only at 24 frames per second. In comparison, the smaller of the two has a ½ sensor and can record 6K at 30 frames per second.
Furthermore, based on the promotional material, the Insta360’s camera may have a flippable screen, though it is unclear if this feature is available for both models or is exclusive to the Pro. Speaking of screens, it has also been reported that the device will be compatible with the Insta360 GPS Remote.
Despite all this information, there are no reports yet as to how much the device is priced or what the reasoning behind Insta360’s partnership with Leica is. Regardless, we’ll only find out more about it after its launch tomorrow.
