Rumours have begun appearing online that NVIDIA has allegedly halted the mass production and ordered the discontinuation of two of its GPUs, the GeForce RTX 4080 and RTX 4070 Ti. Supposedly, the order comes because the GPU brand is now shifting its focus on the production of the upcoming SUPER variants of said graphics card models.
Rumours about NVIDIA’s shift of production towards the mass manufacturing of the SUPER variants of the RTX 4070 Ti and 4080 first stemmed from Board Channels (account and sign-in required), a site relatively known for aggregating sources and information pertaining to NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel board partner. Thankfully, Videocardz managed to grab a screenshot of the report, translated via Google as well.
For the source to say that both the RTX 4080 and 4070 Ti are being discontinued also sounds like a bit of stretch at this stage: it is possible that NVIDIA’s action is temporary and the cards will most likely resume production, just not with as much focus as their SUPER counterparts. Of course, this all hinges on whether or not this bit of news is legitimate so, on that note, we wouldn’t hold our breath on this.
Rumours that NVIDIA was planning on releasing RTX 40 SUPER Series GPUs began appearing last month. The GPU maker is reportedly planning to release three SUPER variants of the RTX 4080, 4070 Ti, and 4070. Their supposed specifications were also posted, the first two in the list were expected to be fitted with AD103 GPUs, and the last one with an AD104.
Not only that, but the alleged packaging design RTX 4070 Ti SUPER has also leaked, revealing what is possibly a new choice of font for the “SUPER” portion of its name, ditching the italised cursive design that it initially used when NVIDIA launched its RTX 20 Series.
