Microsoft is bringing its AI-powered Copilot to Windows 10 soon, the company says. The owner of the world’s most popular operating systems made the announcement via its official Windows Insider blog post, in spite of its the its End of Support (EOS) data already having been set to lapse within the next couple years.
A Preview version of Copilot for Windows 10 was released earlier today, under the build name Windows 10 22H2 Build 19045.3754 (KB5032278). Once updated, Microsoft says that the AI-powered assistant should appear on the right side of the Insider’s screens. It’ll appear via the click of a button located on the bottom right side of the taskbar and yes, you can choose to remove the button presence altogether too.
While the functionalities of Copilot on Windows 10 will more or less be similar to its Windows 11 counterpart, Microsoft points out that there will be some “functional differences” between the two. Specifically, specific functions that are only available on the latter but aren’t on the former, particularly within the features and settings of the two operating systems.
The hardware requirements for Copilot isn’t all that demanding on Windows 10 either. Microsoft has set the minimum requirement for its at 4GB RAM and a 720p display, in order for it to run smoothly.
In addition to the surprise Copilot announcement for Windows 10, Microsoft also says that it is revisiting its approach to how it will provide support for aging OS and when it will be making “additional investments to make sure everyone can get the maximum value from their Windows PC including Copilot in Windows (in preview)”.
