Over the weekend, OPPO officially launched the A79 into the Malaysian market. It is the brand’s latest mid-range smartphone that was unveiled in late October, featuring an eye-catching design as well as a more subtle colour option.
The A79 sports a 6.72-inch 1080p LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 680 nits. For protection, the display is equipped with Panda glass while the entire phone itself is rated at IP54 for dust and water resistance. Running everything is a MediaTek Dimensity 6020 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage as well as a microSD card slot for storage expansion.
On the photography side, the A79 features a 50MP main snapper, a 2MP depth sensor, and an 8MP front camera. Powering the phone is a 5,000mAh battery with support for 33W charging. Connectivity-wise, it supports Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, 5G, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Additionally, it has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
The A79 comes with a retail price of RM1,199, available in Mystery Black and Dazzling Purple colourways. Unlike its launch in India, it appears that the Glowing Green option won’t be making its way here. In any case, the phone is available for purchase from the company’s online store along with its Shopee and Lazada stores, while authorised dealers will start selling it from 16 November.
